7 Ayurvedic Remedies To Relieve Constipation

1. Linseed or Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are an excellent ingredient to the diet if you are constipated because of its high soluble fiber content. For a laxative effect, add 1 tablespoon of flaxseed to 2-3 cups of water and drink this mixture.


Raisins are rich in fiber and can act as a laxative, very soft and effective. Soak a handful of raisins in water overnight and then eat them first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

3.Castor oil

Taking a glass of warm milk before going to the bed can help with cleaning the bowels the next morning. But if constipation is chronic, try adding two tablespoons of castor oil in it.

4.Lemonslemon water

A glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice and a pinch of salt first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, will help cleanse your intestines.


A very popular Ayurvedic medicine for constipation is called Triphala Churna, which is made by grinding three types of fruits or herbs. This remedy is taken at bedtime mixed with warm water or milk. Triphala is a laxative that helps regulate digestion and stimulate a bowel movement. Taking this powder just before bed or first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can relieve constipation quickly. Take it for few days and then give a gap of few days.

6.Red Elm/ Ulmus Rubra

Mainly found in North America, is a herb known for its emollient properties, which means it helps lubricate the intestinal tract. This species of elm is curative, nutritious, can improve digestion, relieve colic and flatulence. It can be taken as powder or tablets.

7.Dandelion Root

It is recommended to boil 1 teaspoon of dandelion root in water and drink 3-4 times a day or take 3-4 tablets a day with a cup of hot water to obtain a natural laxative effect.
